Kvadraturen – the city centre of Kristiansand was built by King Christian IV in 1641 and is perfectly square - 1x1 km.
Palm trees
The town beach in one corner of the Kvadraturen is called Bystranda. It's a fine sandy beach with swimming jetties and palm trees. It is only a short distance to take a dip, or just look out to sea.
If you would like to be out in the archipelago, you can take the popular bathing boat from the port which can take you on a pleasant sightseeing trip.
Nostalgia District
The town area "Posebyen" survived the Great Fire in 1892, and today is perfect for a relaxing
stroll. The area has idylic white painted house walls which are now listed buildings. Stroll through the streets and take in the aroma of baking and everyday life from these houses, which are now home to many Kristiansand residents.
Shopping
Culture and good experiences go hand in hand with intimate cafes and enticing restaurants. There are shopping venues where you can find everything - from small cosy niche
shopping, to large global chain concepts - all in one place! Our main street Markensgate is pedestrianised, which is lively both day and night and is full of shops, cafes, restaurants and bars. There are also a number of incredibly interesting side streets such as Skippergata and Dronningens gate. Everything is located within just a short walking distance. See www.kvadraturen.no for updated information about everything happening in the city.
An Idyllic Setting

The fishing pier is teaming with fish and the opportunity for sampling its produce. Here you can sample the seafood at one of the many wonderful restaurants, or just sit on the pier and peel prawns or even just watch the many boats passing through the Gravane canal.
Green Oasis

Green as far as the eye can see and as far as your legs can take you. Visit one of Kristiansand's park lands. Wergeland Park is the city's green heart. At the foot of the cathedral there are some 20,000 summer flowers that make Kristiansand worthy of the label: Flower Town. Ravnedalen park is plush with lush vegetation and has a beautiful swan lake. The park hosts many great concerts and Cafe Generalen boast a delicious menu, creating a great atmosphere. In Baneheia there is also a network of small trails, perfect for small and large walks or simply for swimming opportunities.
So, lift the sails and head for Kristiansand - Norway's No.1 Holiday destination!
